How to make an animated sticker for Telegram

An animated sticker in Telegram moves: it laughs, nods, dances. You can make one from any video, GIF, round video or Live Photo — no After Effects, no converters: @vidsticker_bot or the online editor cut the three seconds you need, fit the format and add the sticker to your pack.

Two kinds of animated stickers

Two kinds of Telegram stickers move, and people usually call both “animated”:

• Video stickers — short WEBM clips up to 3 seconds. You can make one from any video in a minute — that's what our bot and website do.
• Vector animated stickers (TGS) — drawn in animation software like After Effects. Beautiful, but slow and it takes skill.

This guide is about the first kind: a moving sticker from your own video.

How to make an animated sticker with the bot

1. Open @vidsticker_bot and tap Start.
2. Send a video, GIF, round video or Live Photo. A link to a YouTube, TikTok or other video works too.
3. In the caption set the moment — “from 0:05” or a range “5–8” — an effect (“boomerang”, “loop”, “reverse”), speed (“x2”), “no bg” and an emoji. Nothing written — the bot takes the first 3 seconds.
4. The bot sends the sticker and adds it to your pack. Wrong moment? Shift it with “⏪ 1 s” and “1 s ⏩”; effect, speed, shape and background are buttons too. The sticker gets replaced in your pack.

How to make an animated sticker on the website

1. Open vidsticker.com and upload a video or GIF.
2. Pick the moment: drag the window on the frame strip, and move its edges if you want a shorter clip.
3. On the Time tab choose an effect and speed; on the others — shape, text and background.
4. Tap “Make sticker” — it's ready in a few seconds.

Effects: Boomerang, Loop, Reverse

A Telegram sticker plays in a loop, and you can see a jump where the end meets the start. Effects get rid of it:

• Boomerang — the video plays forward, then backward. No seam at all; half of the clip is used.
• Loop — the end blends smoothly into the start, a seamless loop.
• Reverse — backwards: water flows up, a jump goes back.

If you need more than 3 seconds

A Telegram video sticker is up to 3 seconds — that's Telegram's rule. But you can speed the clip up: at “×2” a sticker fits 6 seconds of video, at “×3” — 9. The window on the frame strip stretches automatically. For funny moments and dances a speed-up often looks even better. Want it smoother instead? “×0.5” slows the video down. A moving sticker without the background

A neural network removes the background from every frame and keeps only the subject — a person, a pet or a cartoon character. Such a sticker looks like a real sticker on top of the chat. In the caption to the bot — “no bg”, on the website — the Background tab. More about background removal

Telegram requirements for animated stickers

A video sticker is a WEBM with VP9: one side exactly 512 px, up to 3 seconds, up to 30 fps, up to 256 KB and no sound. A video emoji is exactly 100×100.
