How to make Telegram video stickers from any video
A video sticker is a short silent clip that Telegram plays on a loop. Making one from your own video usually takes a video editor plus a WEBM converter, because Telegram checks the file strictly. Here's how to skip both and get the sticker straight into your own pack.
Telegram video sticker requirements
The official @Stickers bot only accepts a finished file that meets every requirement exactly:
| Parameter | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Format | WEBM, VP9 codec |
| Frame size | one side exactly 512 px, the other 512 px or less |
| Duration | up to 3 seconds |
| File size | up to 256 KB |
| Frame rate | up to 30 frames per second |
| Sound | none |
The hardest part is the 256 KB limit: compress too much and the sticker turns to mush, too little and Telegram rejects it. vidsticker picks the quality and frame rate for you, so the sticker is as sharp as the limit allows, and checks the finished file against Telegram's requirements.
Option 1. On the website — with trimming, text and effects
- Open vidsticker.com and drop a video or GIF into the window (up to 200 MB), or paste a video link into the field below it.
- Pick the clip on the frame strip: drag the window of up to 3 seconds along it and pull its edges to shorten it.
- On the Frame tab, choose the shape — original, square, rounded or circle — and crop if you like.
- On the Text tab, add a caption: six fonts, bold, italic, color and size.
- On the Time tab, set the speed from ×0.5 to ×3 and an effect: boomerang, loop or reverse.
- On the Background tab, you can have AI remove the background — more on that below.
- Press Make sticker. Download the finished sticker as a .webm file, or log in with Telegram, pick an emoji for it and press Add to pack.
Effects and background removal show up only in the finished sticker: the editor preview plays the video as is.
Option 2. In the bot — send a video, get a sticker
The bot @vidsticker_bot does the same right inside Telegram:
- Open the bot and send it a video, a GIF, a round video message or a video link.
- The bot takes a clip from the start of the video, makes a sticker and adds it to your personal pack right away. The /packs command gives you links to your packs.
- Under the sticker there are buttons to shift the clip, remove the background, add an effect and change the shape. The sticker in your pack is replaced with the new one.
You can put settings straight into the video's caption:
- “from 0:05” or “0:05–0:08” — which part to use;
- an emoji such as 🔥 — which emoji the sticker is linked to;
- “circle”, “square”, “rounded” — the shape;
- “boomerang”, “loop”, “reverse” — an effect; “x2” — speed it up so more video fits into 3 seconds;
- “no bg” — remove the background.
Stickers from YouTube, TikTok and other videos
No need to download anything. Paste a link to YouTube (Shorts too), TikTok, X, Reddit or Vimeo into the field under
the upload window, and set where to start in the from 0:00 field next to it. If the link
already has a timestamp (say, ?t=90 for a minute and a half), it's filled in for you. In the bot, send the
link with a caption like “from 1:30”. We take up to 3 minutes of the video, and then it works like any other video:
clip, text, effect, background removal.
Stickers from other people's videos are for personal use only: the rights stay with the video's author.
Your own sticker packs
You don't need to create a pack in @Stickers. Your first sticker creates a personal pack with your name in the title, and the next ones go to the same pack. A pack holds up to 120 stickers.
You can have several packs — say, “Family” for relatives and “Public” for friends. That matters: anyone you send a sticker to can open its whole pack and add it, so keep personal stickers separate. To create a pack, press + Pack in “My stickers” or send /newpack to the bot. Stickers can be moved and copied between packs — in the bot, with the 📁 Move to another pack button under a sticker.
The website and the mini app have a My stickers section where you can reorder stickers, change their emoji, delete extras and rename the pack. To get the pack in your Telegram, open its link and tap “Add Stickers”.
Prefer to upload by hand? The downloaded .webm already meets the requirements: send it to @Stickers after the /newvideo command (a new pack) or /addsticker (an existing one).
Stickers without a background
To keep only the person, cat or character on the sticker, AI removes the background in every frame: BiRefNet for people and animals, a separate model for drawings. Read more in How to make a video sticker without a background.
Tips for a great sticker
- Pick a strong moment. Three seconds fit one emotion or one action: a laugh, a nod, a gesture.
- Close-ups beat wide shots. A sticker is small in a chat, and fine details get lost.
- Loop without a jump. The “loop” effect smooths the seam between the end and the start, and “boomerang” plays the clip forward and then backward.
- Doesn't fit? Speed it up. At ×2 a sticker holds about 6 seconds of video, at ×3 about 9.
- Send a transparent GIF to the bot as a file (📎 → File): otherwise Telegram turns it into a video and the transparency is lost.
Questions and answers
Why can a sticker only be 3 seconds long?
That's Telegram's limit for video stickers. To fit more, speed the video up ×2 or ×3. If you need a longer clip with sound, make a round video message — up to a minute.
Can a sticker have sound?
No, Telegram video stickers are silent. A round video message can have sound.
What's the difference between video and animated stickers?
In Telegram, “animated” stickers are vector stickers in the TGS format, drawn in graphics apps. Stickers made from a video are video stickers in WEBM. In a chat, both look like moving stickers.
How do I convert an MP4 or a GIF to a Telegram sticker?
Upload it on the website: it's encoded to WEBM/VP9 at 512 px and under 256 KB, exactly as Telegram requires. A GIF's transparent background is kept; send such a GIF to the bot as a file (📎 → File).
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes: the website works in your phone's browser, and the bot works in any Telegram app. HDR video from an iPhone is converted to normal colors automatically.
Can I make a sticker from a YouTube or TikTok video?
Yes: paste the link on the website and set where to start next to it, or send it to the bot with a caption like “from 1:30” — no need to download the video. We take up to 3 minutes. For personal use only: the rights stay with the video's author.
Can I have several sticker packs?
Yes: press “+ Pack” in “My stickers”, or send /newpack to the bot. Stickers can be moved and copied between packs.
Is it free?
Yes, stickers, emoji and round videos are free to make, with no ads and no forced subscriptions.
