How to add an outline to a sticker

A white outline turns a cut-out photo into a real sticker: the subject stands out from the chat background and reads well in both light and dark themes. In Photoshop it's a layer style, in Illustrator an offset path — in our editor you just pick the color and thickness.

How to add an outline online

1. Open vidsticker.com and upload a photo or a video.
2. On the Background tab, choose who stays: “People, animals and objects” or “Drawings and anime”. Without removing the background, the outline follows the edge of the picture or its shape — a circle or a rounded square.
3. Open the Outline tab, pick a color — white, black, yellow, red or blue — and set the thickness with the slider.
4. Tap “Make sticker”. The outline shows up on the finished sticker. Want another color? Tap Edit and make it again.

Outline in the bot

1. Send a photo or a video to @vidsticker_bot. You can add a caption right away: “no bg white outline”, “black outline” or “thick outline”.
2. Under the finished sticker, tap “🖍 Outline”. There are five colors and three thicknesses: thin, medium and thick. The sticker in your pack gets replaced.

An animated sticker with an outline

The outline works on videos too. Around a subject with the background removed it moves along with them — a living sticker. The video sticker still fits Telegram's rules: up to 3 seconds and 256 KB.

Which color and thickness to choose

• White is the classic sticker look: it stands out in both light and dark Telegram themes.
• Black suits light subjects and drawings — the sticker looks like a comic.
• A color — yellow, red or blue — makes the stickers of one pack easy to recognize.
• Thickness. Thin gives a neat contour, medium a classic sticker, thick a bold cut-out edge. On emoji the outline gets thinner by itself: an emoji is only 100×100.
