How to make animated Discord stickers from a video

A Discord server sticker is a small animated picture that everyone on your server can send — no Nitro needed. Discord wants it exactly 320×320 and no bigger than 512 KB, so a sticker cut from a video usually takes a video editor, a GIF converter and a few rounds of compression. Our Discord page does all of that at once: it removes the background and fits the sticker into Discord's limits automatically.

How to make a Discord sticker from a video

  1. Open vidsticker.com/discord and upload a video, a GIF or a photo — or paste a YouTube or TikTok link.
  2. Choose up to 3 seconds on the frame strip. A short loop of 1–2 seconds looks best in chat.
  3. On the Background tab, pick “People, animals and objects” or “Drawings and anime” — only the hero stays, on a transparent background. Add text or an outline on the Text and Style tabs if you like.
  4. Press “Make sticker”, then “Download sticker · APNG”. The file is already 320×320 and under 512 KB.
Video → no background → APNG sticker for Discord

How to add the sticker to your server

  1. Open Discord on a computer or at discord.com in a browser — the mobile app can't upload stickers.
  2. Click your server's name → Server Settings → Stickers → Upload Sticker.
  3. Choose the downloaded file, give the sticker a name (2–30 characters) and a related emoji, then press Upload.
  4. Send it from the sticker picker next to the message box: your new sticker is under the server's name.

To upload stickers you need the Create Expressions permission or to own the server. A server without Boosts has 5 sticker slots; Server Boosts raise it to 15, 30 and 60. Every member of the server can use its stickers; on other servers and in DMs they work for members with Nitro.

Even faster: the vidsticker bot in Discord

If you make stickers often, add the vidsticker bot to your server — then you don't need the site or a manual upload:

  1. Add the bot with the button below. Discord asks for one permission, Create Expressions, so the bot can upload stickers.
  2. In any channel, type /sticker and attach a video, a GIF or a photo — or paste a YouTube or TikTok link. Or open a message with a video → Apps → Make sticker.
  3. Under the finished sticker, pick the background, shape, effect and outline, then press “➕ Add sticker to server” and give it a name.

Why the sticker doesn't move

If you attach the file to a message, Discord shows an APNG as a still picture. Upload it in Server Settings → Stickers instead — then it plays in the chat and in the sticker picker.

FAQ

What format and size does a Discord sticker need?

Exactly 320×320 pixels, up to 512 KB, in PNG, APNG or GIF; an animation can be up to 5 seconds. We make an APNG that already meets these limits. All the limits in one place

Why APNG and not GIF?

A GIF pixel is either fully transparent or fully opaque, so a cut-out hero gets jagged edges. APNG keeps soft edges, and Discord plays both.

Do I need Nitro?

No: anyone on your server can use its stickers. Nitro is only needed to send them on other servers and in DMs.

Can I make a sticker without leaving Discord?

Yes, with the vidsticker bot: /sticker with a video or a link, and a button under the result adds the sticker to your server. More about the bot

Is it free?

Yes, with no watermark. Without signing in you can make 5 stickers a day; signing in with Discord or Telegram removes the limit.

Can I make a sticker from a TikTok or YouTube video?

Yes: paste the link on the Discord page and set where to start. We take up to 3 minutes of the video. For personal use only — the rights stay with the video's author.
